Successful learning always requires an understanding of context.  The History of Ideas seminar is designed to assist students’ participation in the culture of inquiry at university. The program links concepts and trends in scholarship to the macro (critical thinking, register) and micro-level skills (word choice, sentence construction) necessary for effective academic writing and expression.

This unique fusion of content and practice is highly effective in refining students’ English for academic purposes, especially at the postgraduate level. Each of the 12 modules is delivered in a visually interactive PowerPoint presentation. The program aims not to overwhelm the student. Rather, it demonstrates in a precise manner the intricacies of critical analysis, how best to draw from historical primary & secondary sources, how to conceptualise first class academic arguments and produce high quality written arguments essential to pursuing further studies.
