Obtaining IT Equipment in the Faculty
The Faculty of Arts provides and supports a wide variety of hardware platforms and standards.
- All IT equipment purchased by the Faculty must be approved by ArtsIT.
- Where possible ArtsIT will purchase IT Equipment, and charge the cost to an appropriate account/fund.
- All staff members who would like to purchase IT equipment should first contact the ArtsIT helpdesk.
- IT Equipment that is purchase without the approval of ArtsIT , cannot be guaranteed to work within the Monash environment. Where such equipment is not suitable for the Monash environment, ArtsIT will not provide technical support.
Obtaining Software in the Faculty
ArtsIT support the Standard Operating Environment (SOE ) for IBM Compatible PCs used by Monash Staff members. Details of the University SOE can be found at http://www.its.monash.edu.au/staff/systems/windows/technical/staffsoe/ , as well as details on optional approved software, software currently being tested for use within the University, unsupported software, and licensing & distribution information.
In addition to the University SOE, ArtsIT support a number of packages and features not generally supported by ITS and other departments and faculties. These include native language operating systems, language support for web publishing and the MS Office suite, MS Outlook and Outlook Express, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia products and more.
The Monash Software Catalogue is a central resource for all Monash Staff and students. In it you will find details on what software can be found within the university, what licensing covers it, where to get the software from and links to web sites with information on the software.
