Merle Spriggs PhD

Dr Merle Spriggs completed a Master of Bioethics (1995) and a PhD in Bioethics (2001) at the Centre for Human Bioethics. She is currently working as a Research Fellow at the Children’s Bioethics Centre at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Melbourne, Australia.

Merle is author of Autonomy and patients' decisions (Maryland: Lexington Books, 2005), chapters in books and over 30 articles in peer reviewed journals. She recently led a 3 year project on the ethical issues around consent in research involving children. The main project outcome is extensive educational resources for Human Research Ethics Committees and researchers who conduct research involving children. Merle is a past Editor of Monash Bioethics Review (2000-2003) and past Associate Editor of the current controversy section of the Journal of Medical Ethics (2002-2004).
