Professor Jewell Parker Rhodes is the author of the novels: Voodoo Dreams: A Novel of Marie Laveau, Magic City, Douglass’ Women, Voodoo Season and Yellow Moon.
She is also the Piper Endowed Chair and the Founding Artistic Director of the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing. Her literary achievements include a Pulitzer Prize nomination, the American Book Award and the National Endowment of the Arts Award, among many others.
Professor Parker Rhodes’ visit is part of a staff/postgraduate exchange program between Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing at Arizona State University and Centre for Postcolonial Writing at Monash University. Professor Parker Rhodes and two of her postgraduates are undertaking a residency with the Centre for Postcolonial Writing and Literature from 18-23 August.
Professor Parker Rhodes will also lead a postgraduate masterclass and be appearing at the Melbourne Writers Festival.
