A New Master in European and International Studies starts in 2008!

This exciting new multidisciplinary programme aims to provide professionals or future professionals with a deep understanding of the institutional framework and policy-making processes of the European Union and its relations with non-EU countries, regions and international organizations.

The course draws on a variety of disciplines: management, law, politics, sociology and history and investigates the political, legal, economic, social, humanitarian, environmental and security implications of the European Union for the international system.

You will be able to: study at partner European universities, complete an intensive study program at the Monash Prato Centre in Italy, complete an internship in Brussels, study European languages and write a research project in European and international studies.

National Award for Excellence in Translating awarded to Marc Orlando

Congratulations to Marc Orlando, recipient of the Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators award for “Excellence in Translating”. The award recognises outstanding performance in translating and is open to all practitioners in the government and private sectors across Australia.

Marc received the award for his translation into French of “War Zone — A Reporter’s Story”, an 11,000 word magazine feature article on the war in Iraq by New Zealand journalist Jon Stephenson. The original article, which needed to be translated into French in order to compete in an international journalism prize, won the prestigious Bayeux International Prize for War Correspondents in 2006.

Marc has recently joined the School of Languages Cultures and Linguistics in the areas of French and Translation Studies.

Arts Invites Applicants for Internships in India – Deadline 20th November 2007

The Monash Asia Institute in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts is pleased to invite applications from talented Arts students interested in working in India over the summer break.

Four students will be selected to work with an organization in Bombay as part of an internship program for a period of 4 – 6 weeks. Two students will travel in early January 2008 and two in early March.

The program seeks to promote a better understanding of the culture and business environment of Bombay and Melbourne. It is supported by the City of Melbourne, the Indian Merchants Chamber in Bombay and the Hyderabad Sind National Colleges of Bombay.

The selection process will focus on academic results and preference will be given to students intending to take up honours or a masters degree in 2008.

Conditions

  1. The in-country costs of placing Monash interns in Bombay for between four and six weeks are covered by the Indian host institution – The HR College of Commerce. Basic food, accommodation and local transport costs are covered by this Bombay partner.
  2. The costs of international airfares, insurance, visas and incidental costs in Bombay are covered by the students selected for the program.
