The Centre for the Book

The Centre for the Book was established in 1998 to coordinate research and publications in book history, physical bibliography and textual editing. It is a key research centre of the School of English, Communications and Performance Studies within Monash University’s Faculty of Arts. The Centre does not offer a formal degree programme, but continues to provide instruction through the Australian and New Zealand Rare Book Summer School. Research seminars and small conferences, an active publishing programme, and maintenance of a mailing and e-mail list to notify interested persons of forthcoming events are other ways in which the Centre disseminates information. In addition to its own publications list, the Centre owns and operates three historical handpresses, which are used to produce limited-edition books with the Ancora Press imprint.
