HUMCASS offers undergraduate degrees in Communications both on campus and by distance education (OCDL) at Gippsland and The Monash College (TMC) Singapore campuses, and on campus at Malaysia..
The Communications major at HUMCASS is an interdisciplinary major. It offers a range of subjects designed to equip students with skills in describing and analysing the organisation, production, processes, uses and effects of 'traditional' and 'new' communications technologies as integral components of modern societies.
The major provides a theoretically rigorous understanding of the practical operation of these media as well as the social, political and cultural dimensions of communications. It considers the audiences, producers and policy-makers involved. The study program consists of theories of communication; media institutions; cultural technologies and audiences; communications processes; effective communication and public relations; historical and cultural studies; social and political impact of media; policy studies and communications futures.
Study in Communications can be conbined with Writing, Photography, Journalilsm, Marketing and other disciplines.

Communications at Gippsland draws upon a range of approaches including literary and screen theory, political theory and media and cultural studies. The emphasis is on media as productive of the ways in which the social relations between individuals and social/political institutions are organised and pursued in democratic societies. Through studying communications students acquire an understanding of the practical operation of communications media as well as its social and cultural dimensions, and consider the relations between audiences, producers and policy makers involved. Students have the opportunity to combine Communications studies with minors in creative and professional writing, journalism or creative arts programs and may progress to an Honours year and postgraduate research degrees.

B. Communications
Communication is a field of study concerned with future, past and present. Communication professionals work in almost every area of industry, government, and cultural life analysing and acting in the interfaces between people and publics, history and contemporary life, markets and information flows, popular culture and art. The Bachelor of Communication at Monash University Malaysia (MUM) is a three year professionally orientated program, offering a Communication major and minors in Writing and International Studies. MUM Communication graduates are now employed in journalism, publishing, customer service management, public relations, web development, and events management.
