Course Transfers
Course transfers allow current Monash students enrolled in an award course to change to a different course at Monash University. When applying for a transfer you should re-enrol in your current course as per normal. This way if your application is unsuccessful you will not jeopardise your place in your existing course.
Please refer below for more course transfer information.
Eligibility
Undergraduate students
To be eligible for a course transfer to the Faculty of Arts, you must:
- Be a current student who will be continuing their program of study. For example, you cannot apply for a course transfer if you are expecting to complete your current program of study at the end of the current semester; and
- You must have completed a minimum of 12 points of study at Monash University; and
- You must have met the VCE, IB or equivalent prerequisites for the course you wish to transfer to. Prerequisites for Faculty of Arts programs are listed on Monash CourseFinder.
Postgraduate students
Course transfer applications are accepted by students intending to articulate to the next level, for example, students wanting to advance from the Graduate Diploma in Environment and Sustainability to the Master of Environment and Sustainability.
If you wish to change postgraduate courses entirely, you will need to submit a postgraduate direct entry application form. For further details please visit Arts Future Students.
International students
If you want to transfer to an Arts course you should complete the same process listed above but you should also contact Monash International about the implications of course transfers before accepting any offers to transfer.
Current scholarship recipients
Students on a scholarship should check with the body administering the scholarship to determine whether the scholarship is transferable if they are offered a place in another course.
Criteria for a course transfer
Selection is part of a competitive process that takes into consideration several factors including the number of places available and the strength of the applicant pool. As these factors may vary from year to year, the level required to be offered a place in the Faculty of Arts program may also vary. Detailed below are the minimum averages required for a transfer to the Faculty of Arts.
- Single Degrees (i.e. Bachelor of Arts): Credit average (60 or above)
- Double Degrees (i.e. Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Economics): Distinction average (70 or above)
These averages should be used as a guide only as a higher standard may be required in any year. Students who do not meet the minimum averages will not be considered for admission.
Courses with additional criteria
- Bachelor of Music (including double degrees): Applicants must sit an audition. Please refer to the School of Music for audition information.
- Bachelor of Performing Arts (including double degrees) : Applicants must pass an audition. To organise an audition, please contact the Centre for Drama and Theatre Studies.
- Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Visual Arts: VCE study score of 30 in Art/Studio Arts.
How to apply
- Download and complete a Course Transfer Application form available from the Student Services site. For each course you wish to apply for you must complete a separate application form.

If you are submitting more than one transfer application, please ensure all forms are correctly lodged with the managing faculty listed in the Monash handbook entry for the course.
