Take Leave from Your Arts Honours Course
Intermission Information for Monash Arts Students
If you need to take a period of intermission from your Honours course you must apply to the Faculty of Arts Honours Convenor.
A period of intermission from your honours program cannot exceed one semester.
Intermission from the honours program is deemed to be special leave and will only be granted in exceptional circumstances.
All applications must be supported by the appropriate School Honours Coordinator prior to submission to the Faculty of Arts.
If you are studying on an international student visa, your application can only be approved under compassionate or compelling circumstances. See Monash Intermission Information.
Standard undergraduate dates apply to taking intermission. Depending on when you submit your application certain academic and financial penalties may apply. See KeyDates.
Can You Take a Longer Period of Intermission?
Honours students are eligible to take intermission for a maximum of six months. If you need to take a longer break from your studies you should apply for course discontinuation. See Course Discontinuation
When you are ready to resume your studies you can re-apply to the Faculty of Arts. There are specific time limits applicable to reapplying for honours after course discontinuation. See Returning to Study After Course Discontinuation
