Take leave from your Arts honours course

Intermission information

If you need to take a period of intermission from your honours course you must apply to the Faculty of Arts Honours Convenor.

A period of intermission from your honours program cannot exceed one semester.

Intermission from the honours program is deemed to be special leave and will only be granted in exceptional circumstances.

All applications must be supported by the appropriate School Honours Coordinator prior to submission to the faculty.

If you are studying on an international student visa, your application can only be approved under compassionate or compelling circumstances. See Intermission (study leave).

Submit your application before the semester census date to limit academic and financial penalties.

Can you take a longer period of intermission?

Honours students are eligible to take intermission for a maximum of one semester. If you need to take a longer break from your studies you should apply for course discontinuation.

When you are ready to resume your studies you can re-apply to the Faculty of Arts. There are specific time limits applicable to re-applying for honours after course discontinuation.
