Take a break from your Arts course
Deferment
You should submit an application to defer if:
- you have just received an offer, or
- you are in the first semester of your course and it is prior to the census date.
See defer your offer for more information.
Intermission
If you want to take a break from your course you must apply for intermission to the Faculty of Arts. Intermission may be granted for one or two semesters.
See Intermission (study leave) for information on how to apply.
Time limit for course completion
Any period of intermission you take will count towards the time limit for the completion of your course. Intermission will only be approved if you can still meet the requirements of your course within the time limit for completion.
Return to study after intermission
Re-enrolling after intermission
Re-enrolment commences in October every year for the following academic year. We will email you with re-enrolment information in September. Failure to re-enrol during the official re-enrolment period will result in a late re-enrolment fee.
Return early from intermission
If you want to restart your studies early you must contact the Faculty of Arts.
You cannot restart your studies in Web Enrolment System (WES) without us updating your details in the student database.
You should either:
- Complete an Enrolment Form, available from the faculty office on your home campus.
- Send an email through ask.monash using your Monash student account requesting an early return from intermission. Include your student ID number and details of the units you intend to study.
