BlakStages: Contemporary Indigenous Australian performance
A Resource
BlakStages is a work in progress towards creating an interactive openly accessible digitalised archive of information and resources about Indigenous Australian Theatre and Performance. Currently the work in progress consists of an extensive chronology of Indigenous Australian theatre productions performed publicly since the 1940s. In addition there is an extended bibliography of text and audiovisual works about or by Indigenous performance practitioners and a list of useful sites for further information.
The project has three staged aims
-
To provide accessible authoritative information related to Indigenous Australian theatre and performance companies. The current site represents the first step in this stage. The next step will be to consult with stakeholders within the Indigenous performing arts organisations and practitioners, develop a collection protocol and with appropriate permissions link digitalised images and audio visual material to the events within the chronology.
To further extend the available material and knowledge by enabling general and scholarly users to add their knowledge and ephemera from research or experience to the material in the archive.
To enrich the archive as a research resource by developing 3D potential for reproducing 3D images of objects and sets.
The project so far has been developed with support of the Australian Research Council through the LIEF grant ëAusStage: Gateway to Australian live performance, phase 3 - enhancing collaborative research methodologies through digital networking technologies. The chronology has been developed from the AusStage index.
