Gideon Obarzanek's Feet
Trans/Dans is a project examining transnational and cross-cultural choreographies in Australian Dance from 1970 – 2000. With a focus on the history of selected choreographic practices (styles, works, artists, communities), it is looking at how choreographers transmit dance vocabulary. In addition, it is developing methods and tools for cross-cultural analysis of dance, utilizing transnational and cross-cultural understandings.
The aims of this study are:
- To produce a cultural history of choreography in Australian dance.
- To consider the significance of cross-cultural patterns of corporeal exchange.
- To engage choreographers in dialogue with other choreographers about their processes of creation.
- To establish a research network for cross-cultural research in dance.
- To forge connections between creative artists, practitioners and academics.
