About the School of English, Communications & Performance Studies

The School of English, Communications and Performance Studies (ECPS) groups together some of the core humanities disciplines taught at Monash. It is a large and friendly School whose staff are committed to internationally-recognised research and to exciting and inspiring courses of study both at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Our students take subjects and programs that are practical and theoretical, directly useful and deliberately outside everyday experience, but always enjoyable and challenging.
We run a diverse range of undergraduate sequences in Communications and Media Studies, Drama & Theatre Studies, English, Film & TV Studies, Performing Arts, Film & Television Studies and Writing. For more details see our page on Undergraduate Study in the School of ECPS. For additional information refer to the undergraduate sections of each of the School’s teaching disciplines and research units and centres.
We have a large postgraduate enrolment, in a variety of Masters and PhD research degrees - and in Masters’ coursework programs. Each of the main disciplines in the School has its own Postgraduate page, but a guide to these and some general information is available on the Postgraduate Study in the School of ECPS page.
Research is central to our teaching, our engagement with communities outside the University, and with our university partners in Asia, North America and Europe. See the Research in the School of ECPS page for details of areas of research in which the School specialises, current projects, publications by staff and students, and links to further information.
