Scholarships and prizes for postgraduate research in the School of English, Communications and Performance Studies

School of English, Communications and Performance Studies Graduate Scholarship

Full-time HDR scholarship to undertake research in a school program. The successful recipient will possess a background in a relevant discipline of the humanities and social sciences. No direct application is required. Applicants for an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) and/or Monash Graduate Scholarship (MGS) will be automatically considered for a School of English, Communications and Performance Studies (ECPS) Graduate Scholarship in the same application round. The scholarship must commence by 1 March of the enrolled year. A limited number of scholarships are available.

Cécile Parrish Memorial Scholarship for Research Excellence

Graduate Research Achievement Prize

The Graduate Research Achievement Prize recognises the substantial research contribution made by postgraduates in our school. The prize will be judged by a small panel chaired by the School’s Graduate Coordinator. The panel will consider and rank submissions on the basis of originality, scholarship and contribution to knowledge.

Selection Criteria Most outstanding research achievement by a ECPS postgraduate student in the preceding year.

The School reserves the right to withhold an award in a particular year if submissions are not of a sufficiently high quality or to share the prize between two submissions of equal merit.

Eligibility
  • Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and international applicants
  • Current or previously enrolled in a higher degree (coursework or HDR) in the School of English, Communications and Performance Studies (ECPS), including candidates who have already submitted and/or been awarded their degrees where the research text is based on thesis research
  • Any research achievement by an ECPS postgraduate student in the preceding year, including research texts that have been included in the School’s research output profile in the previous calendar year. This may include a sole authored monograph, a published article, a performance, multi-media or digital media work. The research output must be available for submission to the panel

What to include in your application

  1. Hardcopy of the published work. Performance pieces must include both the written performance text and visual performance record
  2. Summary addressing the selection criteria (250 words max) which demonstrates the significance of the achievement (e.g. article published in a leading journal in field)

Application deadline

Deadline for applications is 30 May. The award is announced in late June.
