Biography
I completed my undergraduate education at Melbourne University before receiving a PhD from RMIT University, and have taught at RMIT and Monash University. I am one of the editors of the collection Complicated Currents: Soft Power, Media Flows and East Asia, and have written for journals such as Body & Society, The Journal of Popular Culture, and Continuum.
Research interests
Body Studies
The history and philosophy of the body and embodiment, with particular emphasis on its relationship to medicine, science and technology, and affect and lived experience.
Technology
The development of reciprocal relationships between the body and technology; particularly the simulation of the body using technology, the development of body/machine interfaces, and mechanistic/computationalist theories of life and cognition.
Japanese Popular Culture
Fashion and conventions of presentation and representation in Japanese popular culture; the commodification of the body and anthropomorphisation of commodities; Japanese understandings of race.
