Performance
Campus | Clayton
This area of study is only available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Performing Arts and associated double degrees. Students complete a compulsory major which covers exploring performance, production practice, production investigation, making performance, contemporary performance culture, writing performance, and performance project.
Theatre
Campus | Clayton
Available as a major in the Bachelor of Arts or in greater depth as part of the Bachelor of Performing Arts, theatre is concerned with both performance and analysis of theatre texts and processes. The program covers Asian theatre, contemporary and postcolonial drama, music theatre, performance, theatre practice and process, and script development. Some units have a clear performance focus though none are entirely skills-based in the way that vocational training in acting, directing or backstage work would normally be. At Monash, while we aim to strike a balance between exploring performance and making performance, the former will always be an important part of the program.
