Graduate coursework programs in Environment and Sustainability.
Sustainability is shaping up as the most important challenge of the 21st century. Since the 1970s, Monash University has been at the forefront of Australian sustainability research and education – and within Monash, the School of Geography and Environmental Science has been at the forefront of these efforts.
The School of Geography and Environmental Science offers a suite of interlinked postgraduate coursework programs in which you can gain a qualification in your core area of interest within sustainability science, sustainability management and sustainable development, and broaden and deepen your expertise.
The School of Geography and Environmental Science’s flagship postgraduate coursework program is the Master of Sustainability. This program allows students to specialise in one of three key areas: Corporate Environmental and Sustainability Management (CESM), Environment and Sustainability (E&S), and International Development and Environmental Analysis (IDEA). There are also Double Masters courses, combining the Master of Sustainability with a Master in Journalism. As well, a Master of Integrated Water Management (MIWM) is offered through the International Water Centre, Brisbane.
- Master of Sustainability
- Master of Journalism and Master of Sustainability (MJourn/MSust)

These Masters courses are 72 points (three semesters full time or three years part-time). The Master of Sustainability has alternate exit pathways including a Graduate Certificate (one semester full-time) or Graduate Diploma (one year full time or two years part-time). For students who qualify, each of the courses offers a range of final project options, including practical internship placements in relevant agencies or organisations, or major or minor research theses.
