Do you wish to be effective in the area of environment and sustainability?
The program in Environment and Sustainability is designed to equip you with the core knowledge, tools and skills to achieve the transition to sustainability which is becoming vital for communities, business and government. It will enrich your understanding and experience to enable the individual and societal change required through its foundation in expert knowledge and practical experience of world leaders in research in the environmental, biological, physical and social sciences.
What are the program objectives?
You may enrol in either the Masters degree or a graduate diploma. Both will enable you to:
- Understand ecological processes, social structures and ideological positions underlying issues of sustainability such as climate change, energy and water management
- Critically analyse social and environmental problems and propose realistic solutions
- Work in an interdisciplinary real-world context, integrating the perspectives of science, technology, economics, social science and humanities
- Engage in practical projects and research to respond to local and global issues
The Masters also provides opportunities for more focused research and work within an organization outside the University.
Participation in this program will enable you to be part of a dynamic, friendly, diverse community of students and academics working together for a common goal. You will be encouraged to develop knowledge and skills together and actively learn from each other. Since students bring a range of disciplinary and cultural backgrounds, you will be challenged through class discussions, team assignments, field studies and social occasions to understand different ways of thinking and approaching issues of sustainability.
Double Masters Opportunity
Through a joint program with the
Central European University this program also provides the opportunity
to obtain a second masters degree in Environmental Science by studying

Who should study in this program?
This program is designed to meet the needs of graduates from a wide range of disciplinary and professional backgrounds (including science, engineering, social science, health, law, planning, architecture). You may choose this program in order to:
