M.Idea Double Degree Program
You may undertake a double degree program combining the M.IDEA award with one of two specialist masters degree options. The double degree program considerably broadens the options and professional horizons available to international development and environmental analysis students. Through a double degree students have the ability to develop their professional expertise and skills in distinctive ways according to their own career goals and professional experience, but in much less time than it would normally take to complete two professional masters degrees. For example, students can acquire applied knowledge and skills in project management, strategic management and organisational leadership through the MBA-M.IDEA double degree, areas of expertise of growing relevance and importance to international development professionals. The M.IDEA-M Asian Studies allows students to engage in depth with development issues in our own region and undertake a substantial applied research project in collaboration with an international development agency.
The double degree option involves the completion of two additional standard full time semesters to the usual IDEA program. All double degrees consist of 120 points of study (equivalent to five full-time semesters). 60 points comprise the M.IDEA core and electives, and 60 points are from the specialist masters degree.
The course structure for the double degree program is outlined below. Click on a double degree option for more detail.
- M.IDEA/Master of Asian Studies
- Master of Business Administration/M.IDEA
The actual program for each student will be specifically developed with appropriate guidance and approval of the course directors (M.IDEA and the specialist masters degree).
Mba/M.Idea
The MBA/M.IDEA provides a broad based foundation in business and management while providing existing and aspiring international development professionals with the opportunity of developing specialist knowledge and expertise in sustainable development.
The course will appeal to M.IDEA students wanting to specialise in administration and project management and also MBA students who wish to add a specialisation in international and sustainable development to the broad based business subjects taught in the core MBA program. Many international development professionals need to develop their skills and qualifications in institutional management, project management, private sector partnerships, and organisational leadership and change.
M.IDEA/Master of Asian Studies
There are already many dynamic links between the IDEA and Asian Studies Programs within the Faculty of Arts, as students in each program enrol in units and electives available in the other program. On the one hand, many, if not most, of the IDEA students are particularly interested in Asian Studies and development in the Asian context. On the other hand, most Asian Studies students are concerned with development issues in one form or another. Both groups are concerned with social and cultural change in the context of globalisation. Thus, the proposed M.IDEA-MAS double degree presents an opportunity to combine the strengths of the two programs and offer postgraduate students a chance to considerably enhance their skills, knowledge and qualifications in a course tailored to their interests but in less time than it would usually take to gain two masters degrees.
