Arts Research and Coursework Degrees

Master of Arts by research and coursework

This combined degree allows students to complete part of the course by undertaking coursework units followed by a thesis. For full-time students, the coursework is completed in the first semester and a thesis of 20,000–25,000 words is completed in two following semesters.

Master of Arts (Music Performance)

The course requires the preparation of a high-quality recital performance of challenging works, recorded and submitted as part of a portfolio, along with a program booklet and explanatory research essay for examination. On completion, students should have developed instrumental or vocal performance skills and self-confidence to the level required for professional performance. Knowledge of repertoire and style, research and writing skills should be considerably expanded.

Master of Environmental Science by research and coursework

This course is concerned with the interactions between humans and their bio-geological contexts, with the aim of reintegrating the two with the insights offered by both the humanities and sciences. Research emphasises the processes behind human-environment interactions, the development of policy and the implementation of management strategies favourable to the environment. The course offers a primary insight into the nature of the environmental issues through core coursework units involving interdisciplinary research experience and an understanding of the social construction of the issues.
