PhD (Creative Writing)

Course Overview

Candidates enrolled in the PhD in Creative Writing are required to submit a piece of their own creative writing together with an exegesis (a scholarly, self-reflective critique), both of which must be produced during candidature and under supervision. Each component must be no less than 35,000 words. The combined word total of the creative writing and exegesis must be 70,000–100,000 words.

The minimum qualifications for admission to PhD candidature are:

Applying

All applicants must submit a portfolio consisting of all of the following:

  1. a representative selection of the candidate's creative work, completed or in progress, published or unpublished
  2. a research proposal
  3. a covering letter explaining the candidate's interest in the degree and a CV outlining the candidate's current situation, professional interests and publications, if any.

Note: The work submitted in the portfolio for admission may not be part of the thesis submitted for examination.
