Title of Thesis
"Exhibiting the
Great Depression: a comparative study of museum exhibitions in Australia,
Canada and the United States."
This
study is a transnational comparison of the ways in which museums
in Australia, Canada and the United States approach, interpret and
exhibit narratives of the Great Depression. In examining three different
countries, and a number of public history institutions within each
nation, this project will serve to inform best museological practice
and to widen the discourse between public and academic historians
in dealing with issues of poverty, social upheaval and mass culture.
Profile
Meighen holds an MA from Monash and Graduate Diplomas in both Museum Studies and Film. Her academic interests are museums, public history, the inter-war years, and comparative North American and Australian history.
