Personal History
Christian is an Egyptian archaeologist with a broad range of research interests. He has a BA and an MA in Egyptology and was awarded a PhD for a thesis that explored the nature of the Egyptian communities living in Nubia through an analysis of their burial remains (Title: The Egyptian Cemeteries in Lower Nubia during the First Half of the Second Millennium BC (Macquarie University 2008). The latter was written during a period of research and further study conducted at the Freie University, Berlin.He has taught courses in Egyptian archaeology and language at the University of Sydney, Macquarie University and the University of Queensland. He is currently involved in a number of research projects in Egypt where he has excavated annually since 1998.
Current Research
Although focussed primarily on the period from Early Dynastic Period through to the end of the Second Intermediate Period, Christian has a chronologically broad focus and is currently preparing ceramic material from Abydos spanning 4000 years of Egyptian civilization for publication (Pennsylvania-Yale-Institute of Fine Arts Mission to Abydos and the German Archaeological Institute). He is also responsible for the publication of First Intermediate Period –Middle Kingdom inscribed material and ceramics from the Australian Centre of Egyptology's excavations at Helwan.His current research theme is the archaeology of Egypt in Nubia and the archaeology of death in Egypt during the Middle Kingdom and the Second Intermediate Period.
