The Renaissance in Florence HSY2860/3860
HSY2860/HSY3860 The Renaissance in Florence is offered as part of summer semester 2009–2010; the course will be taught from 20 November to 18 December 2009. Students will depart from Melbourne on 19 November 2009. The Renaissance in Florence is a course valued at 12 credit points. Students considering taking this course are advised to speak with the coordinator Dr Peter Howard
In 2009, The Renaissance in Florence course will, for the first time, be based in Prato. This will enable group members to utilise the facilities of The Monash University Prato Centre, located on the ground and first floors of the elegant 18th century Palazzo Vaj on Via Pugliesi in the historic centre of Prato. In addition, The Monash University Prato Centre is now home to an exciting new development in Medieval and Renaissance studies. A number of leading overseas universities and scholars have joined with Monash to form a consortium for Medieval and Renaissance Studies in the Monash Centre at Prato, making possible the involvement of specialists in teaching the course.

When enrolling there are two things which need to be done:
(a) you must register as soon as possible with Australian Studying Abroad. Later you will need to pay a deposit and eventually the balance (this covers Course Delivery Fee and the specified costs relating to travel, accommodation and the infrastructure as laid out in ASA's brochure). All this information, as well as details of the course and the itinerary can be found at http://www.asatours.com.au/creditcourse/index.html
(b) enrol through normal procedures at Monash. Since The Renaissance in Florence is a 2009-2010 summer course, enrolment will not take place until second semester 2009, normally in late August early September, and can only proceed if (a) is complied with. HSY3125/4125/HYM4125 Dante's Medieval World
Also for the first time, during the summer semester 2009–2010, participants in The Renaissance in Florence course will have the opportunity to complement their exploration of the Renaissance city with Dante’s Medieval World, a subsequent course focussed on Medieval Tuscany, and on the political, social, artistic and spiritual milieus of Dante Alighieri. Together with The Renaissance in Florence, Dante’s Medieval World will offer a uniquely rich opportunity to travel to Italy, and, while staying in Prato, undertake two intensive courses that open up the vivid field of Medieval and Renaissance Studies in its relation to Tuscany and environs.
HSY3125/4125/HYM4125 Dante's Medieval World will be taught 5 January to 2 February 2010. This is a course valued at 12 credit points. See Monash Handbooks.
