Bachelor of Arts (Criminal Justice)
New and exciting degree commencing in 2007
On-campus at Monash University's Gippsland campus and through off campus, distance education mode
Crime affects all our lives. This is why it is of great concern to citizens, governments and the media. The BA (Criminal Justice) explores many questions that are unresolved and contentious:
- What are the causes of crime?
- Is the judiciary 'soft' on crime?
- Why are governments building more prisons?
- Is the criminal justice system just?
- What works and what does not work in preventing crime?
- Is the community's fear of crime justified?
Students will complete eight Criminal Justice units, two units from Australian Indigenous Studies and an Arts minor. The remaining units can be taken from a wide range of humanities and social science disciplines.
Graduates of the BA (Criminal Justice) can seek careers in areas such as policing (state and federal), private policing, security, corrections, courts, research agencies, local councils and various government departments at the state and federal level.
