Antoinette has been working in the communication industries in various capacities for almost twenty years. As well as running her own writing consultancy, Zephyr Manuscripts, Antoinette has taught at the Universities of Newcastle and Wollongong. She was a visiting adjunct assistant Professor with the Centre of Australian and New Zealand Studies, Georgetown, USA in 2001.
She holds a PhD in English from the University of Wollongong (1999) entitled, “Throwing Some Weight Around: women and fatness in the contemporary post-colonial societies of Australia, Canada and New Zealand”. It uses a literary lens to explore discourses of fatness and the female body. Antoinette also holds a Diploma of Education (secondary) with merit (2008), from the University of Newcastle.
Her publications include history and literary criticism as well as newspaper op-eds and fiction. Antoinette has presented radio pieces on ABC radio’s Ockham’s Razor and Perspective.
Her first novel, Steel River was published by Arcadia in 2009.
She is an invited speaker at the upcoming Victorian Writers’ Centre’s Writers week in May 2011.
In her early work Antoinette explored discourses of the body. She maintains this research interest through an exploration of fiction, but also through a developing interest in plasticity.
