Scholarships and Prizes
Each year, the ACJC awards a number of scholarship and prizes to students enrolled in its courses and units. Before inquiring about these scholarships, you should inquire about available government and Monash scholarships. Go to http://www.monash.edu.au/scholarships/
Research Scholarships
Zyga and Diana Elton Research Masters Scholarship
This prestigious Masters Research scholarship, donated to the ACJC by Zyga and the late Diana Elton, is available to applicants who are currently undertaking or proposing to undertake a research MA in any area of Jewish Studies. Expressions of interest should be directed in the first instance to the ACJC Research Coordinator, Professor Leah Garrett. The scholarship is valued at $AUS 10,000 for one year.
Honours Scholarships
Zyga and Diana Elton Honours Scholarship
This scholarship, valued at up to $4000, is for a student enrolled in Honours through the ACJC.

Travel Scholarships
Paul Huppert Memorial Israel Travel Scholarship
Eligibility
To be eligible, you must be:
- an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa, or
- an international student, and
- enrolled or intending to enrol in a coursework degree and in one of the following study abroad units offered by the Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation in the Faculty of Arts at a Monash campus in Australia:
- ATS3287/ATS4287/APG4287 War and Peace: Models of Conflict Resolution.
Selection criteria
Awarded to students based on academic achievement. Financial disadvantage may also be taken into consideration. Preference will be given to students taking the subject at fourth-year level.
Value and number available
$2500 one-off payment. Two scholarships are available.
Deferability
This scholarship cannot be deferred.

Peter and Barbara Kolliner Jewish Study Abroad Scholarship
Eligibility
To be eligible, you must be:
- an Australian or New Zealand citizen or holder of a permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa, or
- an international student, and
- enrolled or intending to enrol in an undergraduate or postgraduate (coursework) degree and in one of the following study abroad units offered by the Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation in the Faculty of Arts at a Monash campus in Australia:
- ATS3414/4314/APG4314 Seeking Justice; South Africa and Rwanda*
- ATS3286/4286/APG4286 Final journey: Remembering the Holocaust*
- ATS3287/4287/APG5287 War and Peace: Models of Conflict Resolution
*Please note: these units are offered in alternate years as winter or summer intensives. Final Journey: Remembering the Holocaust will be offered in 2012, while Seeking Justice; South Africa and Rwanda will be offered in 2013.

Awarded to students based on academic achievement. Financial disadvantage may also be taken into consideration. Preference will be given to students taking the subject at fourth-year level.

Pinskier Memorial Holocaust and Genocide Studies Scholarship
Eligibility
To be eligible, you must be:
- an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa, or
- an international student, and
- enrolled or intending to enrol in an undergraduate or postgraduate (coursework) degree and in one of the following study abroad units offered by the Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation in the Faculty of Arts at a Monash campus in Australia:
- ATS3414/4314/APG4314 Seeking Justice; South Africa and Rwanda*
- ATS3286/4286/APG4286 Final journey: Remembering the Holocaust*

Ryvka and Mordechai Lewin Memorial Yiddish Travel Scholarship
Eligibility
To be eligible, you must be:
- an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa, or
- an international student, and
- enrolled in a coursework degree involving research on Yiddish culture and in one of the following Yiddish language units (Yiddish language, culture and literature’ unit (1A/1B/2A/2B/3A/3B) in the Faculty of Arts at a Monash campus in Australia.
Selection criteria
Awarded to the highest achieving students with a minimum of a distinction weighted average mark (70 per cent) in Yiddish studies or evaluation of a Yiddish research project. Financial disadvantage may also be taken into consideration.
Value and number available
$3000 one-off payment. One scholarship is available.
Deferability
This scholarship cannot be deferred.

ACJC Postgraduate Research Travel Scholarships
Grants are available to postgraduate research students (Masters or PhD) to assist with the cost of travel for fieldwork, research or for delivering an academic paper at major conferences. Grants cover up to $500 for domestic travel and up to $1000 for overseas travel. Students must first apply for central university travel grants via ARGS/ MRGS and SOPHIS. Prizes
The Bernard and Helen Shulkes Prize for a Postgraduate Masters Thesis in Jewish Civilisation
For the best student who has completed an HDR Masters by Research or a 24 point Masters Coursework projects.
Bernard Rechter Jewish Civilisation Honours Prize
For the best Jewish studies Honours thesis.
Peter & Barbara Kolliner Undergraduate Prize in Jewish Civilisation
For the top Jewish studies student completing a major or minor sequence in Jewish civilisation.
Holocaust Studies Prize
For the top student in the unit Holocaust in an Age of Genocide.
Stewart Baron Prize in Middle Eastern and Israel Studies
For the top student in the units History of the Arab-Israel Conflict*, The Modern Middle East or Modern Israel: History, Politics & Society*.
ACJC Yiddish Prize
For the Undergraduate student who achieves the highest mark in a Yiddish Language Unit.
Aziz Abu Sarah Humanitarian Prize (donated by Marcia Pinskier)
For the top student in the Monash Study Abroad Unit, "Israelis and Palestinians: Between War and Peace".
