Korean Music and Dance Performance

Supported by the Korea Foundation and Monash University

The Korean Studies Program was recently proud to present an evening of traditional Korean performing arts led by Mr Pak ChunyƓng, holder of the status of Human Treasure for the Paebaengi kut.

This pansori-like song is a sung epic drama and talks about Buddhism and shamanic ritual. Rarely seen outside Korea, it was the first time that it has been presented to Melbourne audiences.

The program also included folk songs and dances, and P'ungmul nori drumming. The performance was introduced by Dr Roald Maliangkay of the Australian National University.
