Grants and Scholarships for Honours Students

Publication grants

The School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics Publication grant is designed to encourage Honours students who wish to pursue a research degree and publish their research findings in professional journals and books.

Students are encouraged to apply for a publication grant if their supervisors and/or examiners advise them to re-work their Honours thesis into a publishable article. This provides training in research and publication of research results and puts students in a better standing in regards to postgraduate scholarship applications.

There are usually two publication grants available annually to the value of $1000.

Eligibility

To be eligible the applicant must be currently enrolled in their Honours degree within the School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics or have graduated within the last 12 moths.

There are two application deadlines per year, March 31 and July 31.
Demonstrated progress towards the preparation of a publishable manuscript will be taken into account in the selection process. The journal being targeted for the article should be named in the application.
In general the grant will be paid in three installments: one third of the amount will be made available as soon as it is granted, one third at the point of submission of the manuscripts to the journal or book editor, and one third upon notification of acceptance by the editorial board.

Travel grants (Conference and fieldwork)

The School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics is offering travel grants to assist students who wish to attend conferences in order to present a paper or poster on their current research. Travel grants are also available to undertake field trips (surveys, data collection or interviews); to learn new research techniques; to pursue research in specialist archive collections; or to utilise specialist equipment not available at Monash.

Students undertaking Honours are strongly encouraged to present their research findings at national and international conferences. This allows them to expose their work to peer review and to develop networks that will be important in their subsequent research careers. This interaction with researchers of international repute enriches and broadens a student's research experience, while also stimulating collaborative research links between Monash and other research institutions.

Annually, there are four grants available, each up to the value of $1000. Applications for smaller amounts will also be considered.

These travel grants may be used for funding fieldwork and travel within Australia and overseas.

There are two application deadlines per year, 31st of March and 31st of July.
