Applications

Coursework applications

Research applications

Note: it is best to contact the School to obtain an application form for research degrees as the applicant must first consult with an academic staff member regarding their research proposal and potential for supervision. Initial enquiries can  be directed to Ms Sally Riley, Senior Administrative Officer.

1. Closing Date for Applications for Australian Students

The closing date for 2008 enrolment is usually the first week in November, 2007. The closing date for mid-year entry is usually the first week in June each year.

2. Closing Date for Applications for International Students

The application closing date is the last week in December for the Semester One, 2006 intake. Late applications will be considered, however, applicants should allow time for processing and the acquisition of a student visa.

The coursework programs are semesterised and the 2008 academic year runs from late February until October. Semester One commences on 25th February, 2008 and Semester Two commences on 14th July, 2008. Please note that students are not permitted to enrol after the first two weeks of any semester.

Mid-year entry is available for some courses. Applications should reach Monash International at least two months prior to the course commencement date, however, you should apply as soon as possible to allow time for processing and the visa application process.

Enrolment Procedures

1. Australian Applicants

Successful Australian applicants will receive an offer letter by email from mid-November to mid-December. The applicant is requested to respond to this offer by reply email within one week. After two weeks, the place in the Faculty may be given to another applicant. Following your acceptance of the offer, you will receive full enrolment instructions. The main steps are:

Step 1 - Contacting your program coordinator - to discuss your program of study;

Step 2 - Completing the online enrolment, including Enrolment Questionnaire, HECS options declaration form, and unit enrolment - a step by step menu guide is provided on the University's enrolment site (WES).

Step 3 - Obtaining a student card.

If you are unable to complete enrolment online you should contact the Faculty of Arts Coursework Office for assistance.

2. International Applicants

After receiving an unconditional offer of a place from the Faculty of Arts, intending students will, after paying the deposit as outlined in the offer letter, receive an Acceptance Advice form from the Monash International Office which will enable the acquisition or extension of a visa. Enrolment for coursework takes place in February (Semester One), or July (Semester Two).

3. Enrolment for Research Units and Translation Projects in Coursework Degrees

Students intending to include a research unit or translation project in their coursework degree are required to find a supervisor willing to supervise their work, and to submit an application form (in the case of a research unit, together with a research proposal) to the School. The School's approval should be received before enrolling in such research units or translation projects (these units are actually barred from WES and enrolment must be manual using the Part A form).

Because the processing of such applications takes some time, students are advised to prepare their applications well before the enrolment dates. For Semester 1 enrolment, students should apply to the School by 27th October, so that the candidate can be enrolled in December for the following year. Confirmation of Semester 2 enrolment takes place in mid-July. It is therefore necessary to apply to the School for approval by 1st June. Application forms for both the research units and translation projects are available from the Postgraduate Coordinator. You can also download the application form.

Guidelines for these units are available at Research and Translation Project Guidelines. Note that there are guidelines for research units and translation projects approved by the Faculty of Arts. There are also specific School guidelines for research units.
