ALL WELCOME “The role of perceptions in the formulation of South Korean security policies”. Speaker: Ms Geetha Govindasamy, PhD candidate, Monash Asia Institute Realist thinking has dominated the ROK’s security policies and also written analysis about security on the Korean peninsula. This thesis seeks to rebalance this perspective by focussing more sharply on the role that perceptions play in South Korean policies and strategies towards the north. The thesis seeks to do this by analysing the role of south Korean elites in policy formation – in particular middle ranking civil servants, think tanks, chaebol and academics. Ms Govindasamy is a member of staff at the University of Malaya and is a PhD candidate in the Monash Asia Institute. She has been involved in research projects about the growing links between the Republic of Korea and ASEAN. She has recently been awarded with a 2005 Korea Foundation Fellowship for field work in Seoul where she will be hosted by the Institute for Far Eastern Studies, Kyungnam University, Seoul, Korea (IFES), one of the leading research centres on security in North Asia Enquiries: Juliet Yee ------------------------------------------- Item 2.
