Chinese-Australian Contributions to the Australian Health Professions
Project Description
The proposed research on Chinese Australian Contributions to the Health Professions in Australia is a component of the larger study on Chinese International Migration and Transnationalism being conducted by KEE Pookong, Director of the Ritsumeikan Center for Asia Pacific Studies (RCAPS) and Professor of the Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies at the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU), Japan.
This project, Chinese Australian Contributions to the Health Professions in Australia, is being conducted by KEE Pookong of APU and Chooi-Hon HO, Honorary Research Fellow of the Monash Asia Institute, Monash University. Kee Pookong is the main researcher responsible for the project, and Chooi-Hon Ho is the Research Fellow.
Chooi-Hon Ho has strong professional expertise on research information and library resources as well as knowledge of and network among Chinese-Australians and their organizations. This expertise is especially helpful for the identification, collection and review of research information relevant to the theme, as well as framing of research questions, and interpretation of findings.
Kee Pookong has worked on Census, migration and other administrative statistics on the Chinese through his earlier appointment at the former Bureau of Immigration and Population Research. He has also designed and conducted various types of survey and field research both in Australia and overseas. His earlier post at the Singapore-based Chinese Heritage Centre provides a good overview of Chinese migration and the diaspora. This knowledge is useful to the design and analysis of primary data collection on the Chinese-Australians.
Survey
A confidential survey aiming to understand the Chinese-Australian contributions and barriers for full participation in the health system is now being conducted. Chinese-Australian Health professionals are invited to send in their responses. Forms can be downloaded in Word format or pdf format and should be returned by 4 July 2008 to:
