Honours

General Information

A fourth or honours year of study offers students an opportunity to undertake more specialised and advanced work in music.

  • Entry requirements: students must have achieved an average grade of 70% from four units (24 points), three units of which must be at third year level and the other at second or third year level.
  • Combined Study: Combined Honours may be taken in music and another discipline provided that all honours requirements have been met in both disciplines and subject to approval of the Heads of both schools/centres.
  • Mid-year entry is only offered by the School within limitations of the timetable (see below).
  • Completion time: the honours requirements for full-time study is for one year. Part-time study is offered.
  • Extra time: the School may grant an extension of time for submission of the honours thesis or for final coursework up to the last day of the examination period of the semester in which the work is due. Beyond this time special consideration forms must be submitted to the school.

  • One 24 point unit: specialisation category
  • One 12 point unit: general category
  • One 12 point unit: options category
