Lucas de Jong
Biography
Lucas de Jong is a graduate of the Melba Memorial Conservatorium of Music (ACMM). In 1990 Lucas joined the Victoria State Opera's Young Artists Program, performing several roles with them until 1996.
In 1992 he travelled to the United Kingdom, based in London, where he studied at the National Opera Studio and performed many roles including for Glyndebourne Festival Opera, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the Welsh National Opera, English National Opera and opera companies in Europe and Canada.
In 2000 Lucas returned to Australia performing for Opera Australia, West Australian Opera, Opera Queensland and Melbourne Opera. He also performs extensively in recital and concert work with orchestras and events around Australia.
Lucas began teaching classical voice at Monash University in 2003 and now also teaches at Australian Catholic University. He is a member of Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing (ANATS) and is also regularly employed as adjudicator of regional vocal Eisteddfods.
Lucas has conducted performances of The Magic Flute and Orpheus in the Underworld for the Monash Opera Ensemble. He is also the Musical Director of the Melbourne Welsh Male Choir.
