Simon Starr

Biography

Simon Starr is a bassist and composer with great talent, humour, diverse musical interests and energy. Since graduating from VCA in 1993, he has worked constantly as a popular session musician as well as composing and performing in ensembles of his own such as world music/jazz group FROCK, which has played at the Montreux Jazz festival twice, and toured Europe and Asia twice. In late 2007 FROCK released their 5th CD 'Decadence', and in 2009 will release their 6th CD 'The Father, Son and Holy Ghost' (ABC Records).

He has released 2 albums with his original pop project The NLT, and has had extensive experience performing, recording and touring with well known artists from Australia and overseas.

Simon studied in New York in 1994-5 with bassist Dave Holland, and topped up in 2004 by studying with Gary Peacock.

In addition to his deep love of a good walking line and trying to focus a dynamic dialogue within any ensemble that he plays in, Simon can often be found swimming, playing squash, basketball or football, kissing his family, and/or eating good quality produce.
