Causation and Bayesian Nets

Graham Oppy, Toby Handfield, Kevin Korb. Monash Arts/IT Grant, 2003.

The aim of this project is to build on recent work that seeks to use Bayesian Networks in the analysis of causation (as in the work of Pearl, Halpern, Hausmann, Hitchcock, and others). In particular, this project will consider ways in which that recent work can be extended to handle probabilistic causation; and it will also consider the prospects for marrying that recent work with the insights of process—and, in particular, transfer-of-conserved-quantity—theories of causation.
