Oral Assessment
Please note that this policy has not yet been revised or converted to the new format. This policy area is being re-formulated into the new Academic Policy Bank format.
With the exception of performance units, oral assessment should normally not exceed 40% of the total formal assessment in the subject/unit.
- The weighting of assessment of oral presentations should correspond to the significance of oral communication in the unit objectives, and to the nature of the task to be assessed.
- Where the oral communication assessment task comprises more than 10% of the formal assessment of a unit, verification procedures (audio or video taping, assessment by more than one examiner etc) are to be arranged by the unit coordinator.
- The word count equivalence of the oral communication task should be calculated in relation to the weighting it is given in the unit eg. where oral communication is worth 30% of the total assessment in a 6 point subject/unit it should be considered equivalent to 30% of the total number of words currently required by the Faculty.
