Non-Language Study Abroad students

  • Do not pay CSP at Monash

  • Seek approval from discipline prior to departure
  • Enrol in generic Arts study abroad units (ASA1001- 4004)

Language Study Abroad students

  • Do not pay CSP at Monash
  • Pay tuition fees at host institution
  • Seek approval from discipline prior to departure
  • Enrol in Language Study Abroad coded units (on-campus units are NOT appropriate)
  • Discipline assesses work and return Monash result
If the School wishes to examine the work and award a Monash grade, then students must be informed of the need to bring back a copy of the relevant work and of the deadline for submission after their return. Once the work has been assessed by Monash staff, a change of result form must be completed for the Study Abroad unit and submitted to the Faculty Office. The School receives no payment (no EFTSU ) for this service.

Principles

  • The Faculty grants equivalent Monash credit (specified or unspecified) for equivalent Exchange/Study Abroad work overseas.
Students should receive full credit for approved programs undertaken overseas. Thus, for example:
    • If students successfully complete a full-time semester abroad, according to the requirements of the host institution, they should receive 24 credit points towards their Monash degree.
    • If students successfully complete an intensive 6-8 week summer program with contact hours and achievements similar to a two-semester sequence, they should receive 12 points towards their Monash degree.
    • Students are eligible to receive up to 24 points for a full semester of Language Exchange/Study Abroad. Schools should ensure that the approved study plan matches as closely as possible Monash requirements for assessment and contact hours.
  • Students may receive a maximum of 24 points in one discipline and 48 points overall towards a Bachelor degree in the Faculty of Arts for a Monash-approved Exchange/Study Abroad program. Students are allowed further credit for Exchange/Study Abroad in their honours year (Honours Study Abroad Policy).
  • Any variation to the approved study plan completed on the application form must be approved by both the School and the Faculty. There is no guarantee that variations made without prior approval will be accepted, and students are informed of this in writing.
  • If Monash University staff wish to evaluate any work submitted for Exchange/Study Abroad credit or make the amount of credit granted for Exchange/Study Abroad dependent on a particular level of performance, such requirements must be communicated to the student in writing before the student goes abroad.
  • • Students must be informed, in writing, of what will appear on their academic transcript. In particular, students should be informed if no grade will be granted: the transcript will read SFR (Satisfied Faculty Requirements).
