Special Consideration

If you are experiencing difficulties in completing assessment tasks, such as assignments or attending examinations, due to unforeseen circumstances, you may be eligible for Special Consideration.

It’s important that you contact your lecturer or tutor and tell them about your difficulties before you apply.

Music Students - Performance Exams only (technical or recital)
Special Consideration applications, for performance units offered by the School of Music – Conservatorium, need to be lodged with Melissa Peeters, Administrative Officer – Student Liaison, Room 105, Performing Arts Complex (Building 68), Clayton campus. Special consideration for other music units are to be completed and submitted as follows.

Eligibility

To be eligible for Special Consideration you must be experiencing serious illness or other serious circumstances such as: Special Consideration also applies to: If you don’t believe any of these categories apply to you but you need extra time to complete and submit an assessment task see the Faculty’s late assessment submission policy.

Special Consideration cannot result in any adjustments to your marks.

How to Apply

Different procedures apply to assessment tasks due during semester and tasks due at the end of semester.

In-semester assessment tasks

For assessment tasks during semester you must use the In-semester special consideration application form (word) (PDF).

Your application needs to go to the faculty responsible for teaching the relevant unit who will decide the outcome of your application. Please refer to faculty-specific procedures for applications at other faculties.

If the relevant unit is taught by the Arts Faculty, the Faculty will decide if you are eligible for Special Consideration and contact the unit coordinator to make alternative arrangements. You will be notified about what alternative arrangements have been made for you by email.

If your application is rejected you will be notified by email.

NOTE THAT YOUR APPLICATION SHOULD BE MADE NO LATER THAN TWO UNIVERSITY WORKING DAYS AFTER THE DUE DATE OF THE AFFECTED ASSESSMENT TASK

End of semester assessment tasks

For end of semester assessment tasks, such as an examination or a final assignment you must use the End-of-semester exam/assessment special consideration application form (word) (PDF).

Decisions about Special Consideration for end of semester assessment are made by the faculty responsible for managing your course. Arts students should submit all applications for Special Consideration to the Arts Faculty Office on their home campus.

Again, the Arts Faculty will decide if you are eligible for Special Consideration and contact the unit coordinator to make alternative arrangements. You will be notified about what alternative arrangements have been made for you by email.

If your application is rejected you will be notified by email.

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU HAVE ALREADY COMPLETED YOUR END OF SEMESTER EXAMINATION YOU WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION.

YOUR APPLICATION FOR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION FOR AN EXAMINATION SHOULD BE MADE NO LATER THAN TWO UNIVERSITY WORKING DAYS AFTER YOUR LAST SCHEDULED EXAMINATION FOR THE SEMESTER.

Submission

Your application must include documentary evidence such as: Complete the appropriate application form, attach your documentary evidence, and submit your application:

In-semester assessment task applications (for Arts units) — to the Arts Faculty office on the campus you are enrolled. For units other than Arts, please refer to the faculty-specific procedures fro submission of applications.

End of semester assessment task applications — to the Faculty office on your home campus, which manages the course you are enrolled.

Arts Policy Bank
