Staff/Postgraduate Research Exchange

Centre for Postcolonial Writing, School of English, Communications and Performance Studies and Virginia G Piper Centre for Creative Writing, Arizona State University

A productive and exciting exchange programme has been confirmed between the two Centres. It will commence in February 2009 with Dr Chandani Lokuge, Director, CPW and two doctoral candidates in Creative Writing undertaking short-term residencies at the Piper Centre during which they will present papers at an international conference, read from their work and discuss the ways in which relevant postcolonial literature influences/affects it, and participate in the Global Gateway Course. See http://www.asu.edu/piper. Fully funded by the Piper Centre.

Reciprocally, later in 2009, Professor Jewell Rhodes, Artistic Director, Piper Centre and two postgraduates will visit the Centre for Postcolonial Writing for similar residencies. Funded by Monash International and School of English Communications and Performance Studies.

Throughout 2009, Jewell Rhodes and Chandani Lokuge will discuss ways in which the exchange can expand and develop into the future in terms of research and teaching at staff and postgraduate levels.
