ATS2898/ATS3898 - The Italian city through an historical and literary perspective

This unit, taught intensively at the Monash Centre in Prato, Italy, aims to give a greater understanding of Italy and Italian culture and to provide an opportunity to perfect oral and written language skills. Focusing on the city of Prato, the course examines the urban biography of an Italian city from an historical and literary perspective. It explores how the city creates its distinctiveness and civic identity through the celebration of important figures of the Middle Ages such as the merchant Franceasco Datini, its monuments and art works, and contemporary writers. It investigates how Prato deals with its changing urban landscape and with challenges posed by intense immigration
- Departure date - 5 January. Students will travel directly from Fiumicino to Prato by coach upon arrival in Rome on 6 January.
- Classes begin 10 January. Participants will be in Prato for a total of 22 nights, leaving on 28 January.
- Price for the package is $4,240.00 (min 15 students).
- Students will stay at the Calamai Riverside Apartments, Prato (6 January- 28 January).

Application Process:
We recommend that register as soon as possible as places are limited:
- You must register your interest with the Unit Leader for the Program (Annamaria.pagliaro@arts.monash.edu.au).
- You must seek Course Advice from your home faculty and ensure that you have space in your course to undertake an overseas study program. The Course Advice Confirmation Form is enclosed in the Monash Abroad International Study Application (ISP) form (can be downloaded from above link).
- You must register with Australian Studying Abroad (ASA) as soon as possible. You will be required to pay ASA the program fee (a deposit and later the balance)* Complete the ASA Reservation Form and submit accordingly together with accompanying payments and necessary documentation as per ASA's advice.
- Once you are eligible to enrol as per above, complete the ISP Application Form and get approval and acceptance into the program. Submit the ISP Application Form to the unit leader.
- Your ISP Application Form will be forwarded to the Prato Enrolment Coordinator (arts-prato@monash.edu) and confirmation of your enrolment and submission of your forms to Monash Abroad will be given.
- Monash Abroad office will advise you by email whether your application has been successful and whether you are eligible for travel grant.
* The Fee covers all your travel and transfer costs, your accommodation, all Monash Prato Centre fees but does not cover meals, personal travel, excess luggage costs or any other costs related to personal spending.
