Biography
Chris is a social worker who has worked oversees in community development projects, as well as developing a men’s behaviour change program in Gippsland, as part of an integrated response to family violence. Chris has taught at the Gippsland campus of Monash since 2002. His PhD, A Constructivist Approach to Challenging Men’s Violence Against Women, (http://repository.unimelb.edu.au/10187/2374) is published as Laming (2008) below.

- Encouraging reflection in the welfare sector, about issues and concerns arising from practice situations, using the Practice Reflexions website
- Developing practice based research and evaluation methodologies
Current research projects
- Chief Investigator (CI) on an ARC Linkage project (2007-12) with the University of Melbourne, Victoria Police, Department of Human Services, Department of Victorian Communities and the Department of Justice, titled ‘Family Violence Reform: Using knowledge to Develop and Integrate Policy and Practice'. This project is now more widely known as SAFER (Safety and Accountability in Families: Evidence and Research).
- CI in the ‘Raising Voices' project, is part of the research partnership MOU between the Department of Human Services, Gippsland and Monash University, Gippsland. This project is researching communication patterns between staff and residents with disabilities.
- CI in the Realistic Evaluation of the CommUnity Walk Against Family Violence. A collaborative community education initiative between Aboriginal and mainstream services to challenge men's violence against women and children

Chris also currently co-supervises two students doing higher degrees by research. One in the area of men's violence against women and the other looking at suicide and resilience among Australian Indigenous men.
