Why do a postgraduate degree in sociology?
Sociology addresses the many dimensions of social life and social change in industrial and post-industrial societies. A higher degree in sociology provides you with the opportunity to develop specialised theoretical and methodological knowledge to explore diverse issues related to the individual, community, organisation and policy changes in a globalised world. Postgraduate degrees in sociology build research skills and analytical expertise for a closer examination of the issues facing contemporary societies in your area of interest. Postgraduate offerings in sociology range from diplomas and degrees in applied social research to pure research programs such as the MA and PhD . All postgraduate degrees can be undertaken flexibly either on a full-time or part-time basis so students can combine study with work and family commitments. Our graduates embark on careers in academia, research institutes, public policy units and government departments, as well as working in industries such as marketing, business, communications and cross-sector consultancies. Students who are undertaking postgraduate degrees in sociology have won scholarships to study, travel and pursue further research. Many have had the opportunity to conduct and speak about their research across Australia and around the world. All our postgraduate programs aim to provide students with a broad range of research and analytical skills to equip them for careers in social research, private industry and the public sector.
