Associate Professor Jo Lindsay is convenor of the Sociology, Behavioural Studies and Gender Studies programs. Jo is in the Sociology discipline in the School of Political and Social Inquiry (PSI).

Jo Lindsay is Vice President of The Australian Sociological Association (TASA) 2011-2013.

Research

Jo Lindsay specializes in the sociology of families, youth and health. Her research interests include families and consumption, gender relations, health inequalities, youth transitions and social change. The social dynamics of water use is a new field of research she is undertaking.

In the youth field Jo has undertaken major research projects on young people and alcohol consumption, young workers and health risks in their social lives, sexual health knowledge and practices. In the families field Jo has undertaken research on unmarried cohabitation, lesbian families and work/life balance for workers in the nursing and construction industries.

Jo is currently working on four major projects.

Postgraduate Supervision

Jo Lindsay has supervised projects on a wide range of topics including youth culture, mothering, health and ethnic identities. Jo would welcome the opportunity to supervise postgraduate students at PhD, MA or Honours level, particularly projects using a qualitative research approach.
