Biography

Leah completed her undergraduate degree majoring in German Studies at Monash University in 2002. In 2001, she received a One-Semester Scholarship for University Students Reading German Studies from the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst) to study at the Free University, Berlin. During her PhD candidature, Leah was again funded by the DAAD to complete research at the Humboldt University, Berlin. Leah completed her PhD in German Studies at Monash University in 2008.

Research interests

Leah's doctoral thesis Tracing a Tradition: German Translations of Australian Children's Fiction 1945-the present explored the strategies adopted by translators of children's literature, as distinct from adult literature, as well as the translation of "Australianness". Leah has co-authored a number of research projects in the area of translating and interpreting service provision in Victoria, including the provision of language services to the ageing community and the training of translators and interpreters. Other areas of interest include contemporary German literature and culture, the translation of Australian literature, and cross-cultural issues in translation.
