Ms Shani Tobias
Biography
Originally from New Zealand, I majored in Japanese and Law and spent 2 years on student exchange in Japan. After graduating, I worked in Japan on the JET Programme as a translator for 3 years before moving to Melbourne in 2005. I am now enrolled in a PhD in Translation Studies/Japanese Studies, researching Japanese-English literary translation strategies and have been tutoring Japanese language and translation studies courses at Monash since 2006. I find that my experience as a translation practitioner over the past 6 years is a great complement to my research and teaching.
