Steven Angelides holds a five year Monash Fellowship in the Centre for Women's Studies and Gender Research and Sociology. He has a PhD in History and Gender Studies from the University of Melbourne and has held research fellowships at the University of Adelaide, the Australian National University and, before his appointment at Monash, the University of Melbourne.

Research

Steven is the author of A History of Bisexuality (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2001). His publications and research reflect an interest in queer theories and the history and theory of genders and sexualities, with a current focus on child and adolescent sexualities. His preliminary research on child sexuality published in the international journal GLQ was recently awarded the American Modern Language Association (MLA) Crompton-Noll Award.

Steven's current work includes a project on Teacher-Pupil Sex Crime, another on Moral Panics and Child Sexualisation, and a joint Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Education collaboration on sex and relationships education in Australia with Dr Mary Lou Rasmussen and Dr Mindy Blaise.

Postgraduate Supervision

Steven is interested in supervising postgraduate work in a wide range of areas in gender and sexuality studies, including:

He is currently supervising PhD dissertations in lesbian sexuality and visual theory, and queer politics in India and Sri Lanka.
